Abstract

The Readability Level and degree of involvement of the Texts of Arabic Language text Book of The Fourth Grade In Saudi Arabia

This study aimed at recognizing the Readability level and the degree of involvement of the texts of the Arabic Language text Book for the Fourth Grade in Saudi Arabia .

To achieve the aim of this study, the researcher used Cloze Test to measure the level of readability of the text book . Romy's Formula was used to define the level of involvement of the text book for the student, and their validity and reliability were checked.

The population of the study included all the prose texts in the Arabic Language text Book for the Fourth Grade in Saudi Arabia to be taught during the academic year 1432/1433H . And of all the students in the Fourth Grade in the Qurayat District in Saudi Arabia (3029 students) in the school year 1432/1433H. For the sample of the study, two prose texts were chosen randomly from the Arabic Language Text Book for the Fourth Grade in Saudi Arabia, ( 10 ) pages for the participation of presenting the educational material, and ( 303 ) male and female students were chosen by the random cluster method from the Fourth Grade students in Qurayat District as 10% of the study population .

The results of the study showed that the level of readability of the Arabic Language Text Book for the Fourth Grade was low and unsuitable for the students . About 56% of the students fall in depressed level, that means half of the students are unable to read the text and comprehend it even with the help and supervision of the teacher . In addition to (28.7%) of the students fall in the educational level and they need the teacher's help to comprehend what they read. Whereas (15.3%) of the students fall in the independent level, that is they can comprehend what they read without the help and supervision of the teacher. The results showed an effect of statistical significance at the level of (0.05 α) for the gender variable in the students' achievement in the readability of the book in favor of the female students. The results indicated that the involvement of the text book through the educational material equals (0.87) . It is a reasonable rate according to the standard that is defined by Romy 's Formula (0.40), this means that the book helps the student to think, analyze and investigate.

In the light of the results of the stud, the researcher made a number of recommendations .
