The current study aims at investigating the interpretation of English reflexives and pronominals by Arabic –speaking learners of English at Mu'tah University and to compare their interpretation with that of native speakers of English.
In order to investigate this issue, an experiment was carried out using a multiple-choice comprehension test.
Eighty Arabic –speaking learners who served as an experimental group and twenty native speakers who served as a control group took part in this study.
The findings of the study reveal that Arabic-speaking learners' performance is unlike that of native speakers of English.
They have difficulty with both reflexives and pronominals; their syntactic knowledge is insufficient enough to guide their interpretation.
