Abstract
A Stylistic Analysis of Literary Translations: The Golden Odes of Pagan Arabia by Wilfrid Scawen Blunt and Lady Anne Blunt

This study aims at identifying and explaining some of the general rules describing patterns of stylistic change which take place during the Blunts’ (1903) translation of Moallakat from Arabic into English. Placing this study within Baker’s (2001) theoretical framework along with Catford's (1975), the researcher stylistically compares selected excerpts from The Seven Golden Odes of Pagan Arabia by Wilfrid Scawen Blunt and Lady Anne Blunt with their respected source counterparts. Those excerpts from the translated poems in the target language are randomly selected, compared with the excerpts in the source texts, and analyzed in terms of semantics (word level and above word level) and syntax (tense, voice, word order, and sentence types). The researcher finds that this translation of Moallakat fluctuates between conveying the exact meaning of the ST, and deviating from the intended meaning of the ST.

تحليل أسلوبي للترجمة الأدبيّة: ترجمة المعلّقات السبع للشاعر ويلفرِد سكاون بلَنت و زوجته الليدي آن بلنت

تهدف هذه الدراسة الى توضيح بعض القواعد التي تصف انماط التغير الاسلوبي الذي قد طرأ على ترجمة بلنت و زوجته للمعلقات من اللغة العربية الى اللغة الانجليزية. باستخدام الاطار النظري لبيكر (2001) و كاتفرد (1975)، وظّف الباحث التحليل الأسلوبي لمقارنة نصوصٍ مختارة من ترجمة ويلفرِد سكاون بلَنت و زوجته الليدي آن بلنت للمعلّقات بمقارنتها بالنصوص الأصلية. ان هذه النصوص المترجمة الى الانجليزية قد اختيرت عشوائيّاً، و بعد مقارنتها بالنصوص الأصلية تمّ تحليلها دلالياً (التحليل على مستوى الكلمة، و التحليل على مستوى يعلو الكلمة). بالاضافة الى ذلك، فقد استخدم الباحث متغيرات نحوية مثل التحليل على مستوى الزمن، و البناء للمعلوم/المجهول، و ترتيب الكلمات، و نوع الجمل في تحليل بعض النصوص. توصّل الباحث الى أن في بعض اجزاء هذه الترجمة للمعلقات افلح المترجم في ايصال المعنى المقصود الى القارئ الغربي. اضافة لذلك، فإنّ بعض الأجزاء الأخرى حادت عن المعنى المقصود في النص الأصلي.
