The purpose of this study was to know the directed family violence towards children, including (physical abuse, psychological abuse, and neglect), and its relationship to psychological identity of high school students in the city of Tabuk. It, also, aimed to identify the degree of differences in the forms of family violence and cases of psychological identity level among students.
The study sample consisted of (1400) students, (765) of them were males, and (635) were females during the studying year 2009/2010. To achieve the objectives of this study, the measure of parental abuse of children as perceived by children, and the measure of psychological identity were utilized.
The results showed that secondary school students in Tabuk are exposed to all forms of family violence (physical, psychological, and neglect), with a medium degree. The exposure to psychological abuse ranked first, neglect was second, and physical abuse was third. The results, also, showed that there is a positive and relatively high correlation between all forms of family violence (physical, psychological, and neglect), and psychological identity, which indicates that the more the family violence is exposed, the more problem of the clarity of psychological identity will be. The results, also, showed a lack of verification of identity, and a suspension of identity among secondary school students. Meanwhile, the results showed an identity foreclosure, and identity diffusion among secondary school students.
Finally, the results indicated that male students are more vulnerable to all forms of family violence than females.
