ABSTRACT

The Impact of Schuman Inquiry Method on Grade Ten Basic Female Learners' on Immediate and Deferred Achievement  in Islamic Education in the  Sultanate of Oman

       This study aims at investigating  the impact of Schuman inquiry method on grade ten basic  female students' achievement in Islamic Education. It also aims at investigating  grade ten learners retention of concepts and information they have learnt through this method.  Moreover , it aims to compare the usual teaching methods with  Schuman inquiry method.

       The sample of the study consists of 131 students. They were divided into two groups: the  experimental group (65) and the  control group (66).Schuman method was used to teach the experimental group while the control group was taught using the usual teaching methods.

       The study revealed the following results:     

There were significant differences between the immediate post-test mean  scores obtained by the two groups  in favor of the experimental group (0.05a)

       There were also significant differences between the deferred post-test mean  scores obtained by the two groups  in favor of the experimental group (0.05a)

In the light of these results, the study has some pedagogical recommendations. It was  recommended that teachers should apply Schuman inquiry method in their classes. In service training programmers, there  should be a focus on training teachers to use such method.
